CFMC President’s Message – September 2017

Hi All,

Wow, the summer blew by and the CFMC executive committee just had a meeting to work on the direction of the club in 2018. Planning is crucial to success so the team got started on the work of planning for the future.

We are a long way from finished but I think we made significant progress and will have announcements and questions for you at the October General Membership meeting.

We discussed membership at length and are pleased to report that the club has grown to 33 cars. It was exciting to hear that several of the more recent members have volunteered to host events. This takes the load off those who have been doing it in past years. Membership in this club, like most things, is most beneficial if you get involved and stay active.

I am looking forward to the September event at Silver Coast Winery hosted by Bill Bertrand and Jo-Ann Craig. It will include activities such as the Lucy look-a-like contest and the Purple Feet Festival (grape stomping, I presume). Sounds like a lot of fun and it is just a few miles down the road. I hope to see you all there.

The fall is shaping up to be a busy with events (Saturday morning coffee’s, the “4th Biennial Blue Ridge Parkway Tour” (a four- day event), and with hosts signed up for November and December activities).

We are an active group and success depends on everyone participating whenever possible and volunteering to host events in the upcoming year. We will have another general membership meeting in October when I’m certain Ron and Judy Carmichael will be asking for members to volunteer to host an event during 2018. Please think about what you might like to do and Ron & Judy will help you determine what needs to be done to host it successfully.

Some events of the recent past included:

Christmas time at Tryon Palace in New Bern

A tour of the train stations in local counties and a stop at White Lake.

Beaufort wooden boat building contest

The Concours D’ Elegance at Pine Hurst Country Club

Moore’s Creek National Park and Revolutionary War Battle Field

Night of 1000 Candles at Brookgreen Gardens

Perhaps you have interests in road rally’s or competitive events, a concert in Raleigh, Charlotte or even right here in Wilmington.

We have had “unofficial” outings like a morning at the SCCA road course held at the north campus of Cape Fear Community College in Castle Hayne.  Unofficial because it wasn’t enough of an event to warrant the club getting behind it, but two of us drove out just to see what it was all about. For one, I would do it again.

Anyway, I don’t want to beat a dead horse here, but if there is something you enjoy and you think others might as well, run it by Ron and Judy.

I look forward to seeing you all at upcoming events!
