By Paul Reinmann
Yes, the Cape Fear Miata Club has had an activity, first one since Tech Day back in March. It was a daisy chain road trip on July 22, and it all started out with one car at the Reinmann’s house.
Paul and Rebecca left their house alone driving to Rick and Judy Judson’s house in Wilmington arriving at 9 a.m. After chatting for 15 minutes at safe distances we headed to Dave and Donna Moyer’s in Shallotte arriving at 10:15. Expanding our discussion another 15 minutes we then left for Don and Mary Sue Wahl’s in Calabash arriving at 10:45. There we got a tour of Don’s garage/museum and more conversations. Then we took off for Bill and Carol Sundberg’s on Oak Island arriving at 11:45.
Now our caravan was complete, and our five cars left at noon for the Reinmann’s back in Wilmington arriving at 1 pm. Here we hung out on their outdoor porch at proper distances enjoying the lunches we each brought while overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway and Masonboro Island.
At this point we had planned to run the same route only dropping off each car along the way, but everyone decided to just go back to their own homes directly.
Nine people attended with Bill driving solo and one dog, the Moyer’s Zoey. Everyone enjoyed seeing others and being able to socialize outside of Zoom meetings. Stopping at member’s homes was planned in case anyone needed a pit stop but this was not needed until we got to the Reinmann’s. We’re a strong bladder bunch for sure.
We had great weather with the usual summer heat so only a couple of cars drove top-down. The route was planned along main roads ensuring everyone could get home before rush hour. Also, the mid-week traffic was quite light making it a very enjoyable drive.
Impromptu Lu Mil Vineyard trip – Saturday, September 9
Due to uncertainty over the path of hurricane Irma, Silver Coast Winery postponed their planned September 9th Purple Feet festival. Bill Bertrand and Jo-Ann Craig had worked extremely hard in planning a CFMC outing to the winery to participate in the festival. The new date for the festival will be Sunday, November 5th and we…
A Tech Day Follow-up by Ken Schiess
Those CFMC members who participated in Tech Day at Stevenson Mazda may remember that Ken had complained that he was experiencing a vibration while driving his Miata. He learned that day that it was rooted in two of his aluminum wheels (see the March issue of Ragtop Tales). Below is his follow-up to that event.…
A CFMC “Out of this World” Event
CFMC Eclipse Event took place on August 21, 2017 at Hopsewee Plantation, South Carolina. This was a first time occasion for most of us. We’ve seen lunar eclipses but few had experienced a solar eclipse. We had a great turnout with 15 members participating in eight cars (six were Miata’s). We arrived at Hopsewee Plantation…
