President’s Message – September 2022

Is summer really almost over? As Labor Day approaches, we make plans to celebrate our last holiday of the summer season. The coming days bring later sunrises, earlier sunsets, moderating temperatures, and hopefully, lower humidity. As I have mentioned in my previous columns, we are in the peak of hurricane season here in southeast North Carolina. So, keep your guard up and your plans handy. Summer bids us farewell and autumn arrives on September 23.

There has been a scarcity of CFMC events for the past few months. Fortunately, Rick and Judy Judson have a fantastic trip planned for mid-September. We hope that members welcome and take advantage of this opportunity to socialize again and enjoy lots of fun and friendship.  Final details of this trip are included in this edition of the Ragtop Tales.  We need to find events and activities for the remaining months of 2022. We ask members to step forward and volunteer to identify and host club activities. Fall in our area brings a host of festivals that would make for great CFMC outings. It is also not too early to begin plans for our annual meeting and holiday party, normally held in early January.  Unfortunately, due to Covid, we have had to cancel this event over the past two years. Hopefully, we can get it back on schedule for 2023.

Patriot’s Day is September 11. It is a day of remembrance of the horrific attacks of September 11, 2001, and those who were lost and injured. We must never forget this event and be ever vigilant to keep this from happening again.  Patriot’s Day reminds us that the forces of evil that launched those attacks still exist and must be contained. Another historically significant day is September 17, Constitution Day, which marks the 235th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution of the United States by 39 brave patriots.  Please take a moment on this day to celebrate this document that defines the freedoms that we enjoy as Americans. Never take the Constitution for granted. Other significant September commemorations include POW/MIA Recognition Day on September 15 and Gold Star Mother’s Day on September 25. These dates commemorate the significant and ultimate sacrifices of those who gave their last full measure to protect and defend the freedoms that we enjoy. Let us never forget their sacrifices given for us.

There should be plenty of top-down weather ahead for us to enjoy our Miatas. So, take advantage of these remaining days. I hope to see you all soon. Zoom-Zoom!
