President’s Message – November 2023

We’re enjoying a beautiful fall season here in southeastern North Carolina. As we wrap up October with summer-like weather, we know that the chilly winds and lower temperatures are only delayed, not avoided. November brings us the beginning of what for many, is the busiest time of the year. We’ll gain an hour as daylight savings time ends on November 5, celebrate Veteran’s Day on November 11, and Thanksgiving on November 23.

We enjoyed a wonderful day trip on Saturday, October 14, hosted by Ron and Mary Turek. On a beautiful day, CFMC members enjoyed a climb of the Oak Island lighthouse, a visit to Fort Anderson and Brunswick Town, followed by a fantastic meal in Leland.  See the specifics in this month’s Ragtop Tales. Thanks to Ron and Mary for hosting an outstanding event. Our club events for November, a trip to the Whirligig Park in Wilson, and December to the Carolina Opry Christmas show, had to be cancelled due to low participation. Our thanks to Bob and Brenda Haggerman for planning the November trip and to Mary Sue and Don Wahl for the December outing. It is hoped that we can reschedule these events for a later date. I encourage members to identify events and activities for 2024 so we can begin the year on an active note. Our next big CFMC event will be our Holiday Party and annual meeting which will be held on Sunday January 14. More details will follow regarding specific location and times.

This is a reminder that 2024 dues are payable before December 31, 2023.  Send your payment to Mary Sue Wahl at the address included in this month’s Ragtop Tales. As mentioned in my October RTT column, after six years, I will be stepping down as club President.  We are looking for members willing to volunteer for serving their club as an officer or committee chair. If you are interested, please contact a member of the CFMC Executive committee.

I encourage everyone to remember Veteran’s Day on November 11. This is the day we celebrate to remember, honor, and show appreciation to all those who have served in our Nation’s armed forces; past and present. We must always remember the sacrifices they, and their families, have made and the price they have paid for our freedom and safety. We must commit to do our part to preserve and protect those freedoms. Thanksgiving on November 23 is also an opportunity to give thanks and appreciation for the blessings we share as Americans. So please remember to spend time to recognize these important holidays.
