Cafe Fear Miata Club Picnic

August 16, 2025

Many of us from the Cape Fear Miata Club got together on a warm sunny day in August to enjoy a picnic at the beautiful Waterway Pavillion in St. James Plantation. There was plenty of room under the covered area for all 43 of us and the ceiling fans made it feel quite comfortable. A very nice location, for sure.

We enjoyed a catered lunch by Wallace Catering Co. including fish, chicken, pork BBQ and cold salads. Oh, yes and the hush puppies – All agreed, the best around!

Desserts were provided by members, and they were all great, including the chocolate upside down cake. More on this later.

This was a special way for our members to get together and socialize, complementing our monthly gatherings at Panera Bread. So much so that we will consider making this an annual event.

As far as the desserts went, we had some leftovers, and all items were gladly taken home. However, when it came to the chocolate cake, there was much discussion about who should have it and after a tussle it went – well – upside-down.

This event was sponsored and paid for by our club.

Thanks go to Judy Judson and Ron Carmichael doing much of the front work with Paul Reinmann assisting.

Future similar events will be evaluated based on club budget. But, based on our interest here it looks like this could be an annual event.

A Tech Day Follow-up by Ken Schiess

Those CFMC members who participated in Tech Day at Stevenson Mazda may remember that Ken had complained that he was experiencing a vibration while driving his Miata. He learned that day that it was rooted in two of his aluminum wheels (see the March issue of Ragtop Tales). Below is his follow-up to that event.…

A CFMC “Out of this World” Event

CFMC Eclipse Event took place on August 21, 2017 at Hopsewee Plantation, South Carolina. This was a first time occasion for most of us. We’ve seen lunar eclipses but few had experienced a solar eclipse. We had a great turnout with 15 members participating in eight cars (six were Miata’s). We arrived at Hopsewee Plantation…
