11:15 -12:00 PM

Visit and tour the Oak Island Light House on Oak Island.

You may do the lower tour that involves climbing 12 steps. A docent will provide information about the lighthouse and answer any questions you may have.  You may also do the Top Tour that involves climbing 131 metal ship steps to the outside balcony. I have already booked the 11:15 am slot for the Top Tour.

Kindly review the following guidelines:

  • Please plan to arrive at least 10 minutes before your tour time in order to sign paperwork and receive instructions. Tours start promptly and you MUST be registered to make the climb, so if you are late, you may miss your opportunity to climb.
  • Parking is limited so carpool with others in your group. Parking is adjacent to the lighthouse or in our new 18-vehicle lot 500 feet to the east of the lighthouse.  (If you park in the new lot, PLEASE use the wooden walkway to get to the lighthouse, avoiding Caswell Beach Road. This is for your own safety.)
  • Weather permitting (we cannot climb if there is lightning in the area or very high winds).
  • Everyone climbing the tower is required to sign waivers (parents or a responsible adult are required to sign for those under the age of 16).
  • Climbers must be at least 9 years old due to the steepness of the steps.  (There are no height/weight restrictions.)
  • Sneakers or similar closed-toe, rubber sole shoes are REQUIRED– absolutely NO sandals, CROCS, or flip-flops.
  • Climbers are required to have bothhands free for climbing due to the steepness of our steps and NO pets of any kind are allowed inside the Lighthouse.
  • Complete tour usually takes about 30-45 minutes.
  • Cameras/video recorders/binoculars are encouraged but must be in a back/fanny-pack or fit in a pocket/on a belt (bothhands must be free to climb).

There is no charge for any of the tours, however, a donation box is on site. All donations are used for the care and maintenance of the lighthouse and surrounding grounds. Donations are sincerely appreciated.  They offer “I Climbed the Oak Island Lighthouse” T-shirts, as well as quite a few other types of Oak Island Lighthouse souvenirs.

Finally, if you have not already done so, please visit the tours tab on their website to learn what is involved – http://www.oakislandlighthouse.org/tour-information/
