President’s Message – March 2021

I hope everyone is remaining safe and healthy.  Top-down weather is on its way!  March brings us St. Patrick’s Day, the beginning of spring and hopefully, the opportunity to resume our CFMC events and activities in the near future.  The vaccine availability has created some hope and optimism that we will be able to move nearer to more normal aspects of our lives soon.   Because of the vaccine availability, Judy and I are finalizing plans for our rescheduled Spring Miata Mountain Adventure May 17-21, 2021.  Please see the attached article about the event and our request for email confirmation from members who plan to participate.  This multi-day event will let us enjoy the beauty of mountain springtime in western North Carolina.   As I’ve mentioned before, I encourage members to identify opportunities for in-person events that we can schedule for 2021.  Please contact our Activities Chair, Tom Pane, with your thoughts and ideas for activities and events.   We will continue to have our virtual coffee socials on the second Saturday of each month.  This is a great opportunity to connect with other CFMC members and find out what is happening in our Club.  Information on how to connect is in the newsletter and is sent to members via email the week before the virtual meeting.

On a side note, I’d like to call your attention to a remarkable feat of American ingenuity that was minimized or ignored by much of the media; the historic landing of the rover Perseverance on the surface of Mars on February 18.  Amazingly, the “seven minutes of terror” (the actual landing) and subsequent photos of the achievement are documented in videos and photographs.  I encourage you to go to the NASA website www.nasa.gov/perseverance to see the remarkable footage of this amazing technological accomplishment.  This event highlights the strength and success of American opportunity, spirit, resolve, determination and ability to achieve and solve problems that are considered impossible.   Like development of the Covid vaccines, this mission shows what we can achieve as Americans.  Regardless of what some say, the United States of America and its people are the envy of the world and the beacon of what is possible.   Sometimes we take these achievements for granted.  Just think what we could accomplish if all Americans practiced this level of determination and focus in our everyday lives.

Get those Miatas ready for our soon-to-arrive top-down weather.  Hopefully we’ll be able to gather safely soon.  Zoom-Zoom!

Ron Carmichael

President’s Message – October 2020

Welcome to Fall!  I think we all welcome the transition to cooler evenings and days that October brings.  Like everything else during 2020, we approach the final quarter of this year with uncertainty about the upcoming holidays and some trepidation about what we will and won’t be able to do in our traditional celebrations. While…

President’s Message – September 2020

I hope this finds everyone safe and healthy.  August was ushered in by a surprisingly severe Hurricane Isaias.  I hope that everyone survived the storm and that any damage you suffered was minimal.  Here in our portion of Brunswick County, damage was particularly extensive on the western portions of Oak Island predominately due to a…
