President’s Message – July 2023

After a beautiful spring, we find that summer is just around the corner. Even before summer’s official arrival on June 21, we’re seeing the influx of visitors to our area and the assurance that hot, humid days are sure to follow.  June also brings us other dates of celebration including Flag Day and the birthday of the US Army on June 14. Please remember to fly the flag on this important day. Father’s Day is celebrated on June 18, so please be sure to recognize or remember those who have had a significant impact on our lives. As I do every year at this, I remind everyone that the official start of hurricane season begins on June 1. For the newcomers to this area, this signifies the need to begin our preparations for this season. This means we need to get our hurricane preparedness kits ready and plan for potential evacuation routes in case evacuations are recommended or mandated. There are many sources for finding out what is needed in your preparedness kits and identification of local evacuation routes. Please make sure to familiarize yourself with these well in advance.

The CFMC closed out May with a fun trip to Myrtle Beach hosted by Fred Heaton. See the write up of the activities in this month’s Ragtop Tales. Our thanks to Fred for hosting this event! The fun continues with the “Belmont Steaks” event hosted by Deb and Kevin Perham on June 10. Please see the Ragtop Tales for details about this event. We also thank Deb and Kevin for once again hosting this great activity for our club. We have open months for other events so please consider hosting an activity. Contact John and Peggy Harris with your ideas at mx5miata16@gmail.com. I will be discussing the need for a possible mid-year business meeting with the Executive committee. Details will follow.

Judy and I have had lots of travel in April and May and this will continue throughout June. Unfortunately, we’ve missed many of the CFMC’s recent activities and events.  We have not forgotten the CFMC and will be back full time after our June travels.

Judy and I wish everyone a great June, especially on Father’s Day. Get those Miatas out and enjoy the top-down weather before the dog days of August arrive. Remember to finalize those hurricane preparedness items. We’ll see you all real soon.  Zoom-Zoom!

President’s Message – November 2021

If you’re like me, you blink and realize it is November.  It makes you look over your shoulder and say, “Where did 2021 go?”  It is hard to believe that we only have 61 days left in this year.  Speaking of days left, please remember that hurricane season continues until November 30.  And that isn’t…

President’s Message – October 2021

Welcome to Fall!  Cooler, less humid days are arriving and none too soon for most of us. This time of the year in southeastern NC is a perfect time to enjoy top-down weather in our favorite roadster.   As I write this column, we’re in Banner Elk, NC at approximately 4000 feet of elevation.  The air…

President’s Message – September 2021

September means no more post-8 PM sunsets, fewer 90-degree days and Labor Day – sure signs that the summer of 2021 is quickly coming to a close.  Like it or not, we are in the peak of hurricane season here in the southeastern NC.  Our mantra should be:  Be prepared just in case!  We also…
