President’s Message – April 2025

Hi CFMC Members –

This is the time of the year that we not only drive the same make of car but also the same color. With the abundance of pollen this year and the lack of rain, it looks like everything is turning yellow.  To the allergy sufferers, you have my sincere sympathy.

A couple of weeks ago, Judy and I were in Wytheville, Virginia scoping out our upcoming June, Back of the Dragon outing. It was interesting to be driving around on St. Patrick’s Day in snow showers and seeing ice at the top of trees along the ridge of the mountains. When we stopped in Tazwell, we were told that the day before the temperatures were in the 60’s. We have one more upcoming planning trip to Wytheville to finalize our plans and to make some decisions on restaurants.  We are excited about the trip, and it makes up for our disappointment over having to postpone the outing to Little Switzerland.

Speaking about planned outings, I want to thank John and Deb McLendon for planning the Southport Scavenger Hunt Outing for April 26th and Alice Cavin and Patrick Miller for planning the May 14th outing to the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue.  Judy and I made the mistake of trying to visit the Turtle rescue on a Saturday in summer only to find out how popular the rescue is with residents and tourists. Both outings sound fantastic and I am happy we have outings planned for April, May and June. We still have July thru December, and we need to start planning the CFMC funded picnic – anyone interested in planning the picnic?

See you at a future club event.

Rick Judson

While…

President’s Message – September 2020

I hope this finds everyone safe and healthy.  August was ushered in by a surprisingly severe Hurricane Isaias.  I hope that everyone survived the storm and that any damage you suffered was minimal.  Here in our portion of Brunswick County, damage was particularly extensive on the western portions of Oak Island predominately due to a…

President’s Message – August 2020

I hope this finds all of our CFMC members safe and healthy and surviving in the continuing climate of uncertainty and change.  We are definitely well into the “dog days of summer” as August arrives.  In addition to dealing with the heat and humidity, we also need to remember that we are approaching the peak…
