President’s Message – January 2023

Happy New Year!  As 2022 fades in the rear view mirror, we look forward to what 2023 might bring.  As far as the Cape Fear Miata Club, 2023 represents our 30th year as a club.  Many things have changed over the past 30 years but a constant of our club have been the hallmarks of the CFMC; fun, friendship and fellowship among our members.  One of the most important aspects of our club are the events and activities that bring us together and keep us together.  As the pandemic restrictions begin to subside, we must focus on resuming a critical attribute that has sustained our club since 1993; getting back to normal CFMC activities.   Scheduling events and having members volunteer as hosts are top priorities as we begin 2023.  This will be the primary topic of discussion at our upcoming January 8 annual meeting.  Please come prepared to suggest activities, plan to participate and a willingness to host events.  Previous hosts will be willing to work with those who have never hosted an event before.

As a reminder, our CFMC Holiday party will be held on Sunday January 8, 2023.  The venue will be the Circa 1922 restaurant in downtown Wilmington.  We are expecting a great turnout.   Our thanks and appreciation go to Leon and Beth Rooks for arranging and hosting this event for the 4th time. The celebration will include socializing, a fabulous meal and our traditional and entertaining “Yankee swap” gift exchange coordinated by Gina Schiess.   As for the annual meeting, in addition to planning our 2023 club activities, we will be electing a Vice President and Facebook coordinator.  There will also be an opportunity for members to provide input on any aspect of our club.

From my perspective, other club priorities for 2023 include looking at our communication tools (Ragtop Tales newsletter, CFMC website and Facebook page) and determine how we can utilize these to best serve the needs of our club and its members.  I would also like for us to have discussions on possible charity type events where the CFMC could partner with others to serve our community.  I encourage and would appreciate members’ thoughts and ideas on these items.

While the shorter days and colder weather limit the number of top-down days we might see, take advantage of the opportunities as they do arise.  Judy and I wish all of our members and your families a happy, healthy and joyful New Year.  We will see you on January 8!  Zoom-Zoom!

President’s Message – October 2021

Welcome to Fall!  Cooler, less humid days are arriving and none too soon for most of us. This time of the year in southeastern NC is a perfect time to enjoy top-down weather in our favorite roadster.   As I write this column, we’re in Banner Elk, NC at approximately 4000 feet of elevation.  The air…

President’s Message – September 2021

September means no more post-8 PM sunsets, fewer 90-degree days and Labor Day – sure signs that the summer of 2021 is quickly coming to a close.  Like it or not, we are in the peak of hurricane season here in the southeastern NC.  Our mantra should be:  Be prepared just in case!  We also…

President’s Message – August 2021

In getting ready to write this month’s column, I had to double-check the calendar to make sure I had the correct month.  I did, and believe it or not, it really is August already.  Summer is quickly slipping by.  Hopefully we are all returning to most of our “former, normal routines.”  One of the positive…
